چکیده

As Pr. Th. Henning said at the conference, cold precursors of high-mass stars are now “hot topics”. We here propose some observational criteria to identify massive infrared-quiet dense cores which can host the highmass analogs of Class 0 protostars and pre-stellar condensations. We also show how far-infrared to millimeter imaging surveys of entire complexes forming OB stars are starting to unveil the initial conditions of high-mass star formation.

Probing the initial conditions of high-mass star formation

Most work on high-mass star formation has focused on observations of young massive stars in protoclusters. Very little is known about the preceding stage. Here, we present a new high-resolution study of pre-protocluster regions in tracers exclusively probing the coldest and dense gas (NH2D). The two target regions G29.96−0.02 and G35.20−1.74 (W48) are drawn from the SCAMPS project, which search...

Massive Star and Star Cluster Formation

I review the status of massive star formation theories: accretion from collapsing, massive, turbulent cores; competitive accretion; and stellar collisions. I conclude the observational and theoretical evidence favors the first of these models. I then discuss: the initial conditions of star cluster formation as traced by infrared dark clouds; the cluster formation timescale; and comparison of th...

Looking for an Evolutionary Trend in High-mass Star-forming Regions A High Angular Resolution Study of Four Massive Sources from the ATLASGAL Survey at 3mm Wavelengths

Massive star formation plays a key role in the evolution of the Universe but the initial conditions and their subsequent evolutionary stages are not very well understood. Currently, there are two competing views about how the molecular clouds that form massive stars (M > 8M⊙) fragment and collapse, the competitive accretion and the turbulent core model. We present a study of four sources among ...

Early Phases and Initial Conditions for Massive Star Formation

Our knowledge of the initial conditions and early stages of high mass star formation is very limited. We will review recent surveys of regions in the early stages of massive star formation using molecular tracers of high density and dust continuum emission and consider the status of evolutionary schemes. Comparison to the situation for low mass, relatively isolated star formation will be used t...

Very Cold and Massive Cores near Isoss J18364-0221: Implications for the Initial Conditions of High-mass Star-formation

We report the discovery of two very cold and massive molecular cloud cores in the region ISOSS J18364-0221. The object has been identified by a systematic search for very early evolutionary stages of high-mass stars using the 170μm ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey (ISOSS). Submm continuum and molecular line measurements reveal two compact cores within this region. The first core has a temperature of ...
